Earlier this week we reported on pension auto-enrolment and provided a link to People Management's HR Talk, a short online film which focuses on what employers need to do to prepare for auto-enrolment.
Whilst this week the CIPD announced that employers must try harder – reporting that their survey revealed that many companies aren't taking a proactive approach to preparing for next year's auto-enrolment pension scheme. Survey results show that while 75% of employers are fully aware of imminent changes, only 32% know the date on which the new rules will apply to them. Read more of the CIPD's survey
And with much economic doom and gloom in the air, this week we liked People Management's top ten human resource management tips for re-energising your employees. Link to the top-ten tips for re-energising your employees
And to end the week, we were interested to hear from the CIPD's Social Media Conference yesterday. A headline from the conference is that "having a policy on social media use is an unrealistic attempt to control staff and displays a lack of trust".
Speaking at the event, which was a first for the CIPD, Neil Morrison, Group HR Director of Random House, said that HR too often fell in to the trap of relying on "dumb" policies influenced by legal advisers and that social media was one area where things should be done differently.
Sharing a platform with Morrison, Alison Chisnell, Group HR Director of Informa, admitted that her company was in the process of drawing up a policy, but said it would be "light touch" and would consist of "guidelines".
Social media is certainly new ground and we will be monitoring developments in relation to HR policy.
